Tania Rishniw, Deputy Secretary of Employment and Workforce at the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, explains how people are afraid of the consequences of when things don’t go according to plan, how doing the wrong thing can reflect badly on their career, and trying something new that doesn’t work and then being blamed for it. However, as Tania points out, the obligation of public servants is to be courageous and steward the system, which means being prepared for things to go wrong and having the right network and environment around them to have the license to innovate.
